“Children of Fire,” Oh, Sleeper’s newest album is a complete Christian based concept album and its story follows through and through. As God ends Satan’s rule and power in the last album, “Son of the Morning”, kicks off “Children of Fire” with both of them disappearing as Satan’s horns hit the ground. Starting the album as a broken and scattered world where the songs themselves are chaotic to move with the cacophonous theme. With unusual blasting guitar licks combined with overwhelming tapping transitioning to melodic and a calmer feel to the songs, this Metal band shows us a chaotic side of the world without judgment. As disarray arouses in the world, causing destruction among ourselves, two very important characters are coming into play with their own beliefs.On one hand an over zealous religious father feels betrayed and an atheist daughter both are left unanswered, with ceaseless questions that begin to pour out now. Now that this man has seen with his own eyes God abandon him, his true color will show as we find out that he had a shallow understanding of God. Making the songs of his side of the story angry and raging between instruments.

On the other hand, his daughter now has a new perspective of God and she now has been lifted from a false belief to an archer among his army. Unfortunately, now it’s become too late for her father and he comes more malevolent as the album progresses. Leaving him to rip his faith apart from the growling and fierce screams Oh, Sleeper offers. Then as he grows further away, his daughter comes closer to God, questioning the current Christians and how their beliefs of those who turned away were fraud, showing the true “Children of Fire” that will follow and will “stand when all else is broken” and continue to be the hope that’s left standing even on the edge of destruction.

This album is an incredible story that will either turn away the fans who see on just the skin deep level of the record, or it will be a new light to those who aren’t spoon fed and the metaphors that are written will ponder in the minds of those who listen to the deeper meaning beyond the lyrics. Hopefully it will raise questions and the answers will be found in the album.
