I walk into the movie theater with my popcorn in one hand and three dimensional glasses in the other, prepared to watch the movie I have waited weeks to see. The second movie in the Divergent trilogy, Insurgent, was released in theaters on Friday, March 20, 2015.

Insurgent was given a 7 out of 10 by viewers of the movie. Following up the first movie where the main character, Tris (Shailene Woodley), lives in a society that has been split into five factions; Dauntless, Amity, Erudite, Abnegation and Candor. When Tris turns 16, she had to make a very important decision; what faction she will choose. She classifies as Divergent, but chooses Dauntless, where she meets her future boyfriend Four (Theo James).

The movie begins where the last movie left off when Tris, Four, Caleb (Ansel Elgort), Peter (Miles Teller) and Marcus (Ray Stevenson) attempt escaping from the Candor faction to Amity because Jeanine (Kate Winslet) and her soldiers tried to kill them. Hesitantly, Amity’s leader Johanna (Octavia Spencer) allows them to stay there temporarily.

Throughout the movie, Tris and the rest of her group tries to hide from Jeanine to save Tris from an experiment that could could very well change their society forever. Peter and Tris have always had problems from the beginning, but in the end they both respect each other. Even though neither would ever admit it to one another.

The soldiers use a device that scans to pick out people from each faction that show enough divergence to participate in the experiment that Jeanine has prepared. The amount of Divergence they have determines whether they get tested or killed; to put it simply, neither option ends well.

Throughout the movie Tris feels guilty because she believes that she was the reason for the deaths of many people. In the end, she begins to realize that she was not responsible for hurting those people and starts to forgive herself.

Overall, the movie was excellent. Going to see it in 3D just made the experience better because of the action and thrills throughout. I would recommend people watch this movie even if they have not read the book because it will show a perspective of a society living in a very strict and harsh way and the effect it has on people.
