Nathan Nowlin reviews Steven’s Garden & Grill

Unlike other restaurants who put themselves on a highway or a well known street, Steven’s Garden and Grill hides behind the cover of downtown Mansfield. Even though the restaurant remains hidden behind the main buildings where not many people drive by, they still thrive as one of the best barbeque restaurants in the city. Steven’s Garden and Grill has a website with their address on it for directions.

Usually any locally-owned business shows appreciation to their customers and that continues to be what owners, John and Jan Cox, do. Even on a busy night, they go out and visit with their customers or sit down with them and talk. Steven’s has a rewards system, called “We Love You Man” cards, in which you could get free food. With each visit, the servers sign off one time on this card. When you reach ten signings, you receive a free meal.

A combination of the rewards system and the great food the restaurant offers keeps customers returning for more. Steven’s was voted best barbeque in Mansfield for the 2015 year and was also awarded runner-up for best live entertainment and best steak. The ribs just fall off the bone with such smokey flavor that you can’t resist. Their tender and juicy pulled pork with a little touch of their homemade barbeque sauce, has great flavor that just explodes in your mouth with every bite. Their baked potato salad may not look the best, but it sure tastes like mama’s baked potato salad that she bakes for Thanksgiving.

One of the best features of Steven’s would be the perfect sound of nature as you sit outside on the patio. Most weekend nights, a band plays live music outside on the patio. Periodically, the infamous train of Mansfield pierces the peaceful atmosphere that Steven’s provides. Other than the train, there remains no other negativity about the restaurant. Their food tastes delicious, the service keeps you coming back, the atmosphere makes you relaxed and the owners keep proving to be a delight to talk to.
