Travis St. John walks into the weight room at 136 pounds. Five minutes later, holding the 280 pound weights, he weighs 416.

Sophomore, St. John is a power lifter. Not only does it keep him in shape but it is also something he enjoys doing.

“There are a bunch of rules and you have to work on a certain technique everyday.” St. John said.

St. John believes adrenaline is a key factor to succeed in power lifting.

“Right before our turn, we swallow a bottle of honey to get a sugar rush. It gets us pumped up, but tastes horrible,” St. John said.

He has been power lifting for two years. Last year he placed seventh and was two spots away from lettering.

“I was upset that I didn’t letter but the thought of making it that far was amazing.” St. John said.

St. John plans on lettering in power lifting this year. He can bench up to 180 pounds and dead lift 275 pounds.

“Power lifting is the one thing I am good at and I’m proud to be in the program,” St. John said.
