Freezing weather, two feet of snow, and layers of clothes was the everyday life of Senior Brianne Milko and sophomore Logan Milko.

Brianne and Logan, moved to Texas from Michigan two years ago when their mother got a job offer from General Motors.

“My mom came in my room and said we’re moving to Texas,” Brianne said. “I didn’t really have a choice.”

The thought of moving to the Lone Star State filled their heads with pictures of cattle, horse powered wagons and tumbleweed.

“I thought there would be cowboys in hats and leather chaps riding horses around everywhere,” Logan said. “I thought that Texas was still westernized.”

Michigan, full of snow and ice, has below zero temperatures, unlike Texas’ hot, dry, and humid climate. The extreme temperature change took them awhile to get used to. Most of their closets consisted of warm, winter clothes.

“You guys think two inches of snow is a lot and cancel school and everything,” Brianne said. “We actually had enough snow to make snowmen and Logan, and I would make igloos.”

People in Texas have different personalities, habits, wardrobes and accents than the citizens in Michigan.

“People here have southern accents, but think that I talk funny and weird,” Brianne said.

The thought of moving to a new state, miles away from friends and family was rough for them. They wanted to stay but knew they would have to move to Texas with their mother.

“I didn’t want to move and lose all my friends and family in Michigan,” Logan said.

At first they were unsure about picking up and leaving but are now satisfied with their decision. Moving to Texas gave them a new start and a chance to make new friends.

“My favorite thing about moving to Texas is all the great friends I have made,” Logan said.
