Take Your Child To Work Day

MISD employees will celebrate “take your child to work day” on June 7. Other local businesses recognize April 22 as “take your child to work day”, however MISD employees will not. If a student misses school to go to his/her guardian’s work, they will receive an excused absence, which counts against exemptions and perfect attendance.

According to AP John Contreras, the district chose June 7 so teachers would have the opportunity to bring their children to school. Teachers won’t have to worry about their sons and daughters creating distractions during class because school will have ended. Legacy’s graduation also happens to fall on June 7, causing interference for parents who plan to take their kids to work with them.

Contreras believes June 7 fits the occasion for both elementary and high school students, because the time allows kids to get a better appreciation of their parents’ jobs.

“I think it’s a great opportunity for their child to understand what their parents do for a living,” Mr. Contreras said. “They can see what it’s like.”

AP Christine Englert also believes that young boys and girls don’t have a good realization of their parents’ workplace.

“It’s a good idea for children to see what their parents do during the day,” Mrs. Englert said. “They have no idea.”
