Elections for next year’s senior, junior and sophomore class officers will take place during second block May 17, with votes being totaled after school.

To promote their bid for officer positions, students created neon colored posters currently lining the cafeteria. Candidates aim to capture the attention of their class using bright colored posters, hoping to receive their votes as well.

“I feel like with my diversity I can be the voice of our seniors,” junior Taylor Carr, senior class president candidate, said.

While Carr attempts to promote herself in a more political fashion, even creating her own campaign videos, prom chair candidate junior Samantha Dodd campaigns using foam prom dress pins.

“I like to be involved and work events,” Dodd said, “I feel like I can do this.”

Not all students campaign plan involves colorful posters, prom chair candidate junior Danya Phifer avoided creating her own posters until near the end of the week. She believes a colorful poster will have little impact on her votes.

“If people vote for me, they’ll do it it whether I have a sign or not,” Phifer said.

Student Council Sponsor Dena Schimming and senior class sponsor Stephanie Shackelford believe in the end the amount of campaigning has little impact on the amount of votes a candidate will receive.

“People don’t pay much attention to the posters, they pay attention to people,” Shackelford said.
