Marchie Murdock

Marchie Murdock

Junior Marchie Murdock sprints down the field with the football grasped tightly in his hands. Murdock reaches the end zone and scores the first touchdown of the season. The cheering fans dressed in red capture Murdock’s attention. Resisting the urge to celebrate along with the crowd, Murdock knows the public display of triumph could cause him a penalty. Murdock takes one more look at the crowd and then focuses back to the game.

Murdock started playing wide receiver on the varsity football team his sophomore year.

“My favorite part about the game is scoring a touchdown. After I score a touchdown I want to run around. It is the best feeling besides winning,” Murdock said.

The varsity football has lost the first three of the pre-season games. The first against L.D. Bell 63-9. The second against Summit 52-28.

“Looking at the other players helps me keep going when the game gets tough. Seeing how they are not giving up helps me not give up,” Murdock said, “but hopefully we will start winning once district comes around.”

Murdock hopes to become a captain of the football team his senior year.

“I believe my biggest strength as a player is my leadership,” Murdock said. “I always try to help my teammates out when they are down.”

Murdock hopes to continue to play football in college. He would like to attend Louisiana State University or The University of Texas.

“I hope that football will give me a better chance in life,” Murdock said.

The varsity fans have continued to attend the football games regardless of the repeated losses.

“If I was a Legacy fan, I would be stressed about us not winning. But there are true fans out there, and we feed off their energy.” Murdock said.

Murdock has a favorite saying that his father, varsity basketball coach Marchie Murdock has always said, Don’t worry about the mule just load the wagon.

“To me the saying means don’t worry about anything else just worry about yourself and be ready. This has always helped me while playing football,” Murdock said.

About the Contributor
Carson Rahrig, Personalities Editor
I am a pretty crazy person. I talk way too much and annoy everyone, but I guess my friends don’t mind! I laugh at pretty much anything anyone says or does. I am the person that laughs when I get in trouble (my parents are not really a fan of that). I always have a piece of gum handy, I am seriously addicted. Dancing has taken up every free second of my life since I was three, and I would not have it any other way. [email protected]
