Swim Team Wins District title

As Danika Dunn and Clark Blanton stroke through the water in the pool, they know this race could determine if they qualify for regionals. They come to the final lap and begin to move their arms and legs faster until they reach the wall. They gaze up to the board and realize that they won the district championship again.
Sophomore’s Danika Dunn and Clark Blanton have both swam on the swimming team for two years. Both of them went to regionals last year, and again this year.
“Everyone did great because we each trained really hard,” Dunn said.
The morning and afternoon practices resulted in the championship win for these swimmers. When district week approached, Dunn felt confident about the meet.
“My expectation at district is to get first, and to lead the girl’s team,” Dunn said.
District day had finally arrived. Dunn and Blanton each swim efficiently and finished first in almost every event they swam in.
“As I stood on the podium all I could think is, oh my gosh I got first,” Blanton said.
Getting a “57” on his 100 meter backstroke was one way Blanton led his team to a district title. Dunn on the other hand was more focused on making it to regionals. Getting to state will be her next task in mind.
“I have to get first in both of my individual meets, and depending on my competition it could be hard getting to state.”
