Entering art class, sophomore Cameron Chavarria knows exactly what to do. Whether it’s drawing, painting or creating sculptures, Chavarria finds it all familiar. She discovered her passion for art in first grade and has continued to make art ever since.

“My favorite thing about creating art is being free to do whatever I want,” Chavarria said.

Cameron is a member of Art Club as well as art class, and one of her pieces of artwork competed at district. It combines two mediums and depicts an incredibly detailed, two dimensional gun that shoots colored pencils, which were actually glued onto the canvas. She took about two to three weeks to completely finish a piece of artwork.

“I usually feel happy that I’m done with it and I can start something new,” Cameron said.

Cameron holds the position of vice president of the Art Club. The tasks required of the vice president include making certain choices on what they will be doing during the week.

“The hardest thing about being a vice president is helping decide what we will do and what dates most people are available,” Cameron said. “Also having to show up to all of the meetings and events we plan.”

One of Cameron’s favorite styles is abstract, because it gives her a different range of painting ideas. Cameron focuses on inspiring others with her artwork and finding the hidden message in each piece. Working in any medium, she plans to continue creating art.

“I like to draw and paint things that inspire people,” Chavarria said.
