Football Team Adopts New Motto

Throughout the years, the Legacy football team has acquired team mottos. The mottos change from year to year because of a new senior class taking over the field. However, the previous mottos never disappear, the new ones just get added on.

This years motto has officially been recognized as ‘Respect the Herd’. Students were confused when they first heard of the motto, because before the 2014-2015 school year began, rumors had spread that the new motto for this year was ‘Pony Up’. Senior Rodney Mitchell, No. 2 and wide receiver for Legacy, helped to make up the motto for this years season.

“‘Respect the Herd’ overran ‘Pony Up’,” Mitchell said. “It sounds more official.”

This years varsity football team consists of 25 seniors, 20 juniors and 18 sophomores. The team lost 44 seniors who graduated in June of 2014. With the loss of much of the team, people were unsure of how the Broncos would play this year.

“We feel like we lost a lot of seniors and people think that we won’t be good,” Mitchell said, “but through our hard work we will be successful.”

Last years motto, Family (Forget About Me I Love You), was an acronym made by the team. It showcased that the football players want to play for each other, and not themselves. This motto did not disappear, it has been added to the new motto and the team still uses it everyday.

“We still say [Family] every time we break out.” Mitchell said. “L-side and Family are a tradition.”

The team motto has become an invisible part of the football team that can’t be taken away from them. It describes them as a whole and binds them together. It shows that they work hard and want to be recognized for the work that they put in on and off the field.

“Our motto is important all the time and it’s used to motivate us,” Mitchell said. “We put in work and we want people to respect us because it’s our time now.”

My name is Cheeks, yes Cheeks, it's not weird. I am a senior and I am the sports section editor. I am socially awkward, kind of, don't judge me. You'll grow to love me, everybody does, eventually. It's a great day to save lives people (if you don't know what that means, I'm disappointed).

Hey guys, I'm Sterling Greback. I have been on staff as a photographer for 2 years now, and I love it! Being a part of the Yearbook has been really important to me. I'm a junior this year, and I really love to go fishing. One of my friends has a boat and we go out on the lake all of the time. I also like BMX during my free time and playing video games (Can't wait for the new PS4). I have a pet cat, snake and turtle. I really hope this year will be fun! [email protected]
