Veterans vs NFL

Today we value our own entertainment over the more crucial things in life. How many people heard about the incomplete pass in the Green Bay and Cowboys game? But was everyone talking about the current problems with the veterans and the VA hospital too? I’m guessing not.

Professional athletes in the top three most watched sports in the US get paid north of $400,000 a year. Army personnel usually do not make more than $70,000 a year and that applies to high ranked, experienced officers. These men and women fight for our freedom and I personally think of pay gap as a moral flaw of the people of America.

We the people pay and support the athletes just by turning on the game and watching, buying team merchandise, paying for the Sunday Ticket, and even paying the expensive tickets to go see our favorite sports teams play. But we complain about taxes, the very thing that supports our military. We willingly buy things for our favorite sports teams but we feel forced to pay taxes.

I don’t think people know what willingly giving their life to this country feels like and that people take their freedom for granted because they’ve always had it. I think we should come together as a nation and realize that they’re more important things. That entertainment stands pale in comparison when our veterans and army personnel barely get along.

I am a strong supporter of the NFL, I have my favorite team and watch every game. I’m one of the many who neglect national problems and usually only think of myself. But I realized how corrupt the economy system was when my grandfather had to wait for over half of his day to see a doctor at the VA hospital.

So many problems cause struggle here in the US. Not only professional athletes that get too much pay and attention, either. As an American, I have grown up selfish and ignorant. I notice many others that reflect this behavior. Take a minute to really think about what you consider your priorities.
