Believe it or not, everyday of the year possesses multiple interesting holiday and celebration names. National days that people make up, if passed through legislation, could be federally declared a holiday. Sometimes whole weeks and months are federally named, like “Black History Month” and many more. Check out this list of some interesting holidays.

National Chips and Dip Day

You should rip open a bag of chips to enjoy your guacamole, bean dip or queso on this day celebrated on March 23.

National Tax Day

All citizen’s individual income tax returns need to be submitted to the federal government by April 15 every year. This started in the Revenue Act of 1861 to help fund the Civil War.

NASCAR Day

Drivers, fans, celebrities and media join together to raise funding for charitable causes on May 15.

National Flag Day

June 14 commemorates the adoption of the U.S. flag in 1777. Betsy Ross designed and created the flag although it has been modified about 26 times.

Paper Bag Day

Forget the lunch box and get a brown paper bag to take your lunch. Margaret E. Knight, known as “the mother of the grocery bag,” invented the paper bag, which we celebrate on July 12.

National Dog Day

On August 26, we encourage dog owners to promote a “happy, safe, abuse-free life.” The National Dog Day Foundation works to rescue 10,000 dogs each year.

Car Free Day

On September 22, take your bike, skateboard or anything else other than a car, to use as a means of transportation. This day helps to stop pollution in the environment and encourages public transportation.

National Train Your Brain Day

Our brains work in unique ways, sometimes better than others. Take October 13 to exercise your brain and increase your potential capacity by playing brain teasers to grow the small percentage of our brain we actually use.

National Fast Food Day

With fast preparation and served to the customer in a portable form, fast food was introduced in the ‘50s as automobiles became popular and were used to pick up food in drive-thrus. So on your way to work or school, stop by Chick-Fil-A, McDonald’s or Arby’s on November 16.

No Interruptions Day

Getting ready for the New Year? Plan on December 31 to clean and organize your work space, home or whatever the case may be to get off to a fresh start.
