Quarterback Kendall Catalon, 11, prepares to receive the ball and start a play during preseason practices.

The Legacy broncos kicked off their season on August 10th. The practices went from 6:30 in the morning to 12:30 in the afternoon. Then, starting August 17th, the boys suited up for ‘two-a-days.’ Two-a-days refer to when the team practices twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening, preparing themselves for the season to come. Varsity player Joey Milburn, and the rest of the team, feels confident about their upcoming season and expects to go far this year.

“Preseason in the first few days was hard,” Milburn said. “But as the days went on they got easier and easier and the team became more conditioned.”

During the pre-season practices the team goes six hours in the heat, pushing themselves to perform to the best of their ability. At the beginning of every practice Coach Melson, head football coach, starts the warm-ups by “clapping it out” and chanting while going through the stretches. The team, aligned in rows based on their position, stretch and encourage each other to keep it up. As the stretches come to an end the team huddles up and listens to Coach Melson as he gives a few words of encouragement and then sends them to their teams.

“I’m ready for this weeks game, I can’t wait to see what the guys do,” Melson said.

As the summer draws to an end and the players start school the team grows eager to start the season. The team practices after school to prepare for their upcoming opponents. Senior Cody Willis thinks the team will do well when they play on Friday nights.

“We really pushed ourselves this summer and will show that on the field,” Willis said.

The team faces their first opponent, the Lovejoy Leopards, on Friday, August 28 at 7 p.m. at Allen High School. The team has been looking forward to this game and are ready to fight for a victory.

“I think our team is in good shape this season,” Milburn said. “We have worked really hard this preseason and are ready to play.”
