Junior Keenan Williams wakes up at 4:30 in the morning, slowly slides out of bed and makes his way to the bathroom for his morning routine. With his eyes barely opened, he turns on the light and immediately shields them from the bright light. He heads downstairs to eat a quick breakfast and then goes to swim practice.

“Practice starts really early and sometimes it is hard to get moving in the morning,” Williams said. “But I wouldn’t have it any other way.”

Legacy’s swim team will be competing in the invitational meet held at the Mansfield ISD Natatorium. In total, 23 schools will be competing, all Mansfield ISD schools will be there and also some schools from Lubbock. The team has been practicing for District and are taking a little break to race in the invitational meet.

“I’m ready to compete,” Williams said.  “We have been working so hard and it’s nice to be able to go and compete.”

Lately the team’s main focus has been training for Districts that will occur after Winter break. However the team is using this meet to see where they are at and what they need to improve on. There are eight 5A schools and 15 6A schools that will be competing at the meet.

“We are currently training hard so I know that many of them will be swimming tired, but I am looking for effort and intensity at this meet,”  Coach Nicholas Johnson said.

The team looks forward to the meet and can’t wait to see how they do. After practicing so hard and so long. They can’t wait to see how much improvement they have made.

“The kids continue to work hard day in and day out,” Coach Johnson said. “We are definitely ready to race.”
