Getting Into the Swing of Things

[File Photo] The baseball team learns about their swings with their new baseball swing program.

Second baseman Cade Logan could not miss a ball with his new and improved routine. Logan learned new things about his swing from the new baseball swing program, and he seems to be progressing with each and every swing he takes.

Head Baseball Coach Chris McMullen changed almost everything about the way he wants his hitters to approach the plate. He figured driving more force and loading your hands back before you swing could help generate more power.

“There have already been positive results,” Coach McMullen said. “Our players are starting to understand how their body works together in their swing. Players are hitting the ball harder, having more efficient swings and are hitting a lot more line drives.”

This year, hitters with previous knowledge from last year’s program seem to have more experience with the new system.

“I think the program is a lot better this year than last year, mainly because it seems more organized now,” Logan said. “I’ve already seen results in my swing, having more power and whip in my bat.”

The new program has only been put into action for a couple of months, but many players have seen an increase in bat speed and the way baseballs have been coming off their bat.

“Everyone’s work ethic is very high right now, and everyone seems very motivated to get better every day,” Coach McMullen said. “I love seeing that.”

With hitters having a better understanding of how to maximize their swing, this could lead to further using the new hitting program in the future.

“The biggest question that I think will define our season is will baseball guys be working as hard in November as they are now and keep their motivation and drive?” McMullen said. “If so, we are going to have a great season this year and go deeper into playoffs.”
