Numerous restrooms punctuate the ends of every hallway in our school; conveniently placed so students can quickly get to and from the restroom and back to class without getting a tardy. Unfortunately, these facilities are being wasted because of vandalism which caused administrators to lock the majority of them to prevent further damage. Writing obscene messages on the walls and destroying equipment ruins the restrooms for everyone. While it’s interesting to see what the student body thinks of your mom on the side of the stall, it gets old when every trip ends with a game of guess-which-faucet-works-this-time because of wanna-be electricians.
Vandalism happens regardless of what rules are put into place, what doors are locked or how many guards posted around the school. A vandal can strike at the time and place of their choosing, while any guard or rule must protect everywhere at all times. Protecting every part of the school at all times is impossible, so the responsibility of keeping the school in good shape ultimately lies in student’s hands.
Legacy has the nicest campus in the district, and after only three years, it’s getting tarnished. Even if a student doesn’t like the school, the teachers, their classes or the creepy guy who stares at them in the hallway (you know who you are), they should not take their frustrations out with vandalism.

I think it’s completely stupid to run across the school just to get to a bathroom. Mr. Mallett told us a story one time and i think what he said could be turned into a pretty cool idea: Why don’t we just put up paper on the walls of the bathroom and put “vandalism here” and just change the paper out every week? That would save us a lot of trouble and we could finally be able to go to the bathroom.
