As a way to say “thank you” for making good grades and showing up to school, Ms. Shelene Anderson will take students who meet the requirements to Six Flags on Mar. 23 for a day of fun and relaxation with friends. In order to go, students must be passing their classes from 1st semester and this 6 weeks, not be absence failing or have any discipline issues (not counting dress code or tardy assignments to AC).

After first period, they will head for the park and stay until 6 p.m. The trip counts as a school-related absence and will not count against exemptions. Ms. Anderson knows this trip will allow students to unwind as this school year draws to a close.

“Hopefully the benefit to students will be fun and relaxation for the day,” Ms. Anderson said. “It’s a reward, so the idea is that they have a good time.”

Students interested in signing up should see Ms. Anderson in T-204 or Ms. Karina Pena in the second floor office for a permission form. $48.50 includes park entry, a photo and meal voucher and a drink. Students may also attend if they have a season pass and just pay for the meal voucher which is $12.50. Ms. Anderson believes if this event is successful, the school may hold similar trips in the near future.

“I’m all about encouraging and rewarding hard work, but I will have to see how this works out first,” Ms. Anderson said. “It’s hard to justify the amount of work I put into something like this if nobody wants to participate.”

The last day to sign up for Six Flags is Mar. 21.
