Math teacher and Chess sponsor, Ms. Sarah Kamphaus received Teacher of the Month Award for October unexpectedly. In Ms. Kamphaus’ years of teaching gratitude and acknowledgment for her work had never been physically portrayed. Although, a piece of paper isn’t worth much, what lies within the paper is worth days, weeks, and years of teaching, all performed by her.

Did you expect the award?
“No, I was totally surprised.”

What was your reaction when you won the award?
“Not sure but my whole class broke into applause.”

What does it mean to you?
“I feel very honored to be recognized by people outside of my classroom: my peers and the administrators both.”

What kind of impact did it have on you?
“It serves as an affirmation and a positive boost of energy to keep doing what I’m doing.”

Have you ever received an award like this before?
“I have received teacher of the week from the Silver Spurs and several football players
but not an award from my superiors and peers.”

Does this award serve as motivation for you?
“Yes, It is nice to know that you are appreciated.”

Now that you have been chosen as the teacher of the month, are you motivated to become teacher of the year?
“No, I feel there are others who have a more widespread impact that would be better choices.”
